Gifts from Hana

Cassia and I have been studying an awesome book together and it’s been leading to some great conversations and changes in our lives.  One of those changes was in the gifts we give to each other’s kiddos.  We are trying to teach our kids that we have SO many blessings and that we can share those blessings with others in need and also with our friends.  We are hoping to decrease the amount of gifts we actually purchase and, instead, help our kids to find FUN gifts from within our own homes to give to each other.  It’s a challenging exercise (for all of us…it’s hard to not do the “easy” thing and buy a new gift for someone…kind of intimidating, actually), but both kids have been pretty great about it.  Hana picked out some awesome gifts for E’s birthday and drew him a really sweet card.

Here’s sweet Hana with the AWESOME helicopter she gave to Ethan.  When Ethan understood what Hana had done for him, he got a really big smile on his face and said, “That was so kind of Hana.  Now when it is her birthday I am going to give her my speedboat!”

I have to take a minute to brag this girl up…and her incredible parents because I have literally never seen anything like it before.  Hana was given some money for graduating preschool this year and she said, “now I won’t have to give Ethan my old stuff.  I can buy him new stuff.”  Cass explained how this was a great way to show kindness and love to Ethan and that it had nothing to do with not having the money to spend on him….but, seriously, people…how sweet is her heart??  She was going to buy Ethan things with her own money.  Love her.  =)
