We planned outings for each day of our vacation in Charleston. On Friday, we took a boat out to Fort Sumter. This was a particularly moving outing given the very recent shootings in Charleston. It reminded me about how far we’ve come…but that we have a LONG way to go still. Ethan was very confused about why Americans would want to fight other Americans or why people could ever have been slaves.
Then we went for lunch and ice cream before heading back home for a relaxing evening.
On Saturday we walked around downtown Charleston to explore the city (it’s absolutely beautiful there…one of my new favorite cities!) and eat at the famous “Hyman’s Seafood” restaurant. We were also able to drive/walk by the church where the shooting happened, a sobering experience. We spent the evening playing games, going to the beach, and swimming in the pool.
And Sunday – our final day – we had a leisurely morning and a tasty breakfast of “oeufs en cocette” made by Jen and Jason, went to church (an interesting experience, to say the least) and then out for lunch at a french restaurant before going our separate ways.
Such a lovely vacation! Thanks, Mom and Dad, for making it possible!! We had a great time! (some might even say “it was a blast” ahem, Jennie)
