I guess it’s been a bit since my last update on life out here! We’ve had some crazy weather – 70s followed by a blizzard and then back up to the 50s – and lots of fun over the past couple of weeks. Here are some highlights:
The boys and I enjoyed Faces of History, which is something the Essentials kids at Classical Conversations do each year. It’s pretty impressive to see how they go from writing a research paper about a person in history, to acting it out in first person in front of a big group of people. My aunt is the Essentials tutor at our location, so she’s kind of a big deal. =) Two of our cousins participated this year, so that was especially fun to watch.
In other homeschooling news, Micah finished his notebook. It consisted of worksheets I made for him each day and he was very proud to complete it. And Ethan’s handwriting is really improving – it’s not something incredibly important, I know, but it’s neat to compare his writing from the beginning of the year to now.
We are loving the park down the street from our house. We like climbing trees, walking, playing on the playground, walking out to dinner, etc. etc. One day we are biking and scooting down the path (check out E’s “new” bike!), the next we’re sledding down the big hill. This place is nuts! And we love it!
Micah especially loves sledding and is not intimidated in the least. He usually goes down by himself, but sometimes he asks for one of us to join him. That’s me screaming in the video, not him. He’s perfectly calm the whole time! =)
After time spent outside in the snow, we like to warm up inside:
There is also a park just a short drive (or on a really nice day, a long walk) away. It’s in between our house and Aunt Melanie and Uncle Joel’s place. We met up with my dear friend there the day before the blizzard last week. It was a lovely, albeit windy, day. The boys absolutely LOVED climbing trees there and playing in the creek.
The boys have been loving making new bead designs again. They’ve spent hours over the last week working on them. Ethan made a few new ones to sell, so I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about these in the future. They have also been doing a lot of coloring. Micah spent his own money on Star Wars coloring pages. They ask loads of questions about who each character is and what their ship is called and whether they are good or bad. I’m thankful I can turn to Uncle Jason and Uncle Gerrit to answer these questions for me! Micah loves all things “bad” and also “guns” right now – a phase I am hoping will soon pass. They have been enjoying listening to the orchestra play the Star Wars songs and guess whether it’s a song for a good guy or a bad guy. Micah’s fav song, of course, is Darth Vader’s theme. (I’m sure it has another name, really, but that’s what I call it) And we spent some time this past week doing various art projects. They made bunnies in honor of the bunny that lives in our backyard…we named him Snuggles.
Last week we joined our cousins at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. We had a great time with them there!
