Advent Activities 10-15

Our Advent Activities have not been going according to plan this year, primarily due to sickness reigning in our home for 2 weeks.  Ugh.  In fact, Mikey had to remind me this week that satan would love for me to be discouraged by the lack of fun activities and to keep me distracted from the real preparation and excitement of the season.  He happens to be reading “Screwtape Letters” with his Bible study, so he told me in a letter-from -Screwtape type of way.  “Keep her distracted and discouraged from the real meaning of Christmas.  Your affectionate uncle, Screwtape”

Anyway, we’re doing our best to continue preparing our hearts through the reading of Tabitha’s travels.  And we’ve had some fun activities interspersed throughout our week.

Day 10: Sort through toys/clothes for donations

The boys are almost always very willing to give toys away when there’s a good cause behind it.  We’ve been having a lot of interesting and sweet conversations about orphanages and the foster system, lately.  Micah wanted to donate toys to homeless kids and wondered how we could do that.  I need to get better about researching more places for donations.  This year, we went with the classic Goodwill donation, but in the future we’d like to find another option.

I forgot to snap a pic of the bags (probably because…who really wants to look at a picture of bags!?), but we managed to fill 4 bags between the four of us.

Day 11: Watch home videos from 2016 and eat popcorn

This is one of my favorite advent activities each year.  It’s a nice opportunity to think back over the experiences from the last year.  It’s crazy to think we started 2016 still living in Georgia!

Day 12: Red and green meal

Another classic favorite.  We had a salad again this year…because that’s easy to incorporate lots of reds and greens.  We also had a special pomegranate red drink, which made things extra special.

Day 13: Nothing.  Mike was sick and we didn’t end up getting to babysit Baby Caleb for Aunt Ashley’s birthday, so we just laid low.

Day 14: Christmas snack (it was scheduled to be something else, but sickness…)

Day 15: Out for dinner (we had intended to go someplace kind of fancy and unique, like fondue or something…but Mike was pretty sick so we just grabbed some Pei Wei and called it good.)  I didn’t snap any pictures.
