In the Meantime, continued…

Uncle Jason had a work meeting in Westminster the week after our trip to Wisconsin.  We were thrilled to get to host him for a meal and some football watching!  We chose not to tell the boys, so when we returned home from our walk and found him getting out of his car, they were stunned.  Ethan turned around and asked, “Mom, is that Uncle Jason?!?” before running to give him a hug!

Speaking of brief visitors, we also had the opportunity to host Grandpa and his friend, Mr. Rick, twice this past week.  They were traveling to see the elk and the beautiful scenery in Rocky Mountain National Park and stopped in to see us on their way up and back home again.  We had a nice amount of time with them and really enjoyed their company.  Grandpa even put Micah’s training wheels on his bike and taught him how to ride a bit.  Mr. Rick played a bunch of games of Corn Hole with Ethan and lost, or so I’m told, every single game. =D  We also walked to get some frozen yogurt!

My Dad brought his old bike out for me to keep!  I am absolutely thrilled.  E and I have been biking every day for “fitness class” for homeschool and reviewing our memory work. It’s been awesome.  I guess Mike snapped a pic of us heading out the other day. =D

Other updates include lots of time baking various muffins…

…Continued one-on-ones with each boy…(some of us take pictures, while others do not)

…lots of fun at Classical Conversations.  And for those of you who have been praying for me as a newbie tutor, thank you.  It’s been going extremely well and I’m pleased to say that it’s been more fun than work.  Phew!  If you can’t tell, hahaha, that’s an abstract art drawing of my name. =D

Also, we are official a one-car family.  We have been acting like one for months now, but we finally sold our Jetta to carmax this past month.  Here’s Micah reading books while we wait for the paperwork to be completed.  And here’s a picture of our family back in April when we first thought we were going to sell the car and needed to say goodbye to it. =D

We continue to be a game-playing family and a game-watching family.  We were able to watch (some of it, for some of us) of the Packers game last Sunday night.

Also, I hosted my first baby shower/sprinkle for a very dear friend.  Logistics worked out well and it was a very sweet time!  Yay!

And I started my first night BSF class.  I’m thankful that I have another dear friend joining me at it because it’s really hard for me to want to stay in jeans all.day.long to be appropriately clothed for anything at night. 😉  I took this first picture because I always like to remember when I started BSF and what I was studying at various seasons in my life.  I truly cannot recommend a better Bible Study…it’s been life-changing for me.  Then, I was laughing at myself because my tendency is to want to show “cute” little snapshots of my life…and I thought it would be nice to remember the real-ness of this season, too, so I took another pic. =D

Moving Activities

8 Days until Moving Day – last haircuts in Georgia!  Ms. Jin is awesome!  She’s always so kind and generous and has been cutting my hair almost since the month we arrived.

7 Days – last day at BSF in Norcross (we are already signed up for BSF in Denver on Wednesday mornings!) and goodbye to G and A (friends from Ethan’s last year’s preschool class) at GetAir

6 Days – last movie night in Georgia!  We had hot chocolate and watched Hercules.

5 Days – Saturday – we didn’t do anything specific for a moving activity this day.  Mike and I worked hard to pack and organize and the boys had a playdate over at our friends/neighbors’ house.  So I guess we could have called it, “last play date at R and A’s house” but we just didn’t even take down a number card this day.  We also re-visited our leaving day plan and arranged that we might leave on Thursday OR we might leave on Friday – depending on how much gets done this week.

Less than a week until moving day!  Eek.

Catching Up

We are experiencing days and days (and days and days…) of rain here in Georgia and the boys are playing Legos in the playroom.  So I’m taking some time to get caught up on our blog.

Micah LOVES to help in the kitchen.  He offers to help often and really enjoys it.  Here are some pics of him making us some cookies.  They were healthy cookies, people, and they turned out super tasty.  It makes me giggle when I can tell them that they may have a cookie for breakfast.  =)  Micah loves to help because he likes to be helpful…but I think all of the little tastes might have something to do with it. =)  Before starting, he had to go grab his “cooking hat”.

Ethan has been loving playing soccer this fall.  On Saturday he was able to play in three quarters and played each of the “positions”: goal keeper, defense and offense.  He did a great job and has been improving a lot this year.  We’re focusing on playing aggressively, dribbling the ball, and being kind to everyone. =)

About once a month, Mike and I (and, by default, Ethan) volunteer in the 4 year old class at church.  This is a really sweet group of kiddos (all boys right now) and we love doing it.  Micah, of course, thinks it’s extra exciting to have his entire family in his class with him.IMG_8947 IMG_8949 IMG_8950

Grandma Cleve sent some fun new “school” workbooks and books along with Aunt Ashley and Uncle Zach last month.  The boys loved all of these gifts and we spent an afternoon doing workbooks and playing with stickers the other day (think: rain, rain, rain).

We finished reading “Beezus and Ramona” recently, so we decided to watch the recent movie.  The movie was nothing like that book, but I vaguely remember much of the storyline from some of the other books in the series.  Hopefully we’ll pick up a few more of those books and it will make more sense to the boys as this movie had nothing to do with the first book.  We enjoyed some Fig Newtons in honor of the book (where Ramona decides to have a party and doesn’t tell her Mom that she invited a good 12 kids over to her house…please, let that NEVER happen to me!…and her Mom gives everyone Fig Newtons as party snacks).

Pumped about a recent shopping trip to Kid to Kid.  We get two free books every month – YES! – and I was able to buy 3 pants, 3 shirts, one pj pant for Ethan and one sweater for Micah…all for under $40.  It’s not fair trade, but it’s the next best thing…used! =D  E was pretty pumped about the “army pants”.

Here’s E at CC this week, giving a presentation about our time at the Georgia Air Show.  This one cracks me up.

IMG_6347

I started this post by saying that Micah loves to help.  The other night he was being a big helper (without even being asked) and he spilled hot soup down his arm while attempting to bring the bowl into the dining room for dinner.  The poor sweetheart was badly burned and in a lot of pain.  We’ve done our best to treat it properly and had a nurse at CC check it out.  It’s definitely on the mend and he has not complained about it once.  Not once.  Very brave boy.

IMG_6346 IMG_6350 IMG_6351

It hasn’t slowed him down a bit:

E is learning to play the tin whistle. =/

IMG_6363

Ethan has been asking us about getting a “real” Bible for about a month now.  So I took him to a Christian bookstore this week to help him pick one out.  He was VERY excited about this.  And once we got there and he saw all of the Bible cases, he absolutely wanted one of those to go with it.  It’s hard to discourage this kind of thing… =D

IMG_6356 IMG_6357 IMG_6359 IMG_6360 IMG_6361 IMG_6362

Today we had an intergenerational opening at BSF, so I had the boys with me at the beginning.  They loved it.  I was stunned to see that E didn’t really know what a hymnal was…our church doesn’t use them.  And Micah wanted pictures of himself reading the Bible for the very first time.

IMG_6365 IMG_6369 IMG_6370

We’ve been having some really exciting conversations with Ethan recently about his faith.  He has been expressing an interest in being a Christian, making a decision for himself, being a child of God, getting baptized, etc.  He has learned various ways to talk about it from different people.  Today after BSF his leader told me that E told her he wants to become a child of God and basically made that commitment while there.  We’ll be having some follow up conversations, of course, but how exciting!!!

Pumpkin Day!

The boys and I celebrated a new “holiday” this year: pumpkin day!  We celebrated all day by wearing orange.  We also played at a new park after BSF and ate our lunch (including PUMPKIN chips) there.  We decorated our windows with fall pictures.  We made pumpkin energy balls (the boys LOVED them; I don’t think I even tried them) and then decorated our pumpkins with jewels.  My favorite part was eating pumpkin ice cream sandwiches…oh.my.word.  Delicious.

Playing catch up

It seems a few weeks have passed since I last updated…so this will be a random post of playing catch up!

The park at the school by our house is STILL under construction, but a little bit of progress has been made.  We are hoping it’s finished by this summer!  We stopped over one afternoon and found our neighbors there.  Fun!  The boys didn’t even want to go because they were worried they would miss out on playing with their friends!

IMG_2216 IMG_2217 IMG_2218 IMG_2220 IMG_2221 IMG_2222

We had some pretty warm weather a couple weeks ago, so we decided to try to “run” to Chipotle again.  It was lots of fun, but we need to keep practicing….we’ll be running 2.7 miles to benefit “Out of Darkness” with our church in May.  =)

Here’s Micah, looking so grown up, leaving Bible Study a couple weeks ago:

IMG_2226

And here’s E putting stars by all the books he wants to get: IMG_2229

Reading quietly at the library, while I search for new books:

Playing construction at the house:

Micah has been working on his ABCs a bit more intentionally lately:

IMG_2241 IMG_2243 IMG_2246 IMG_2247

He may or may not have been bribed with a scone. 😉

IMG_2244 IMG_2245

And E lost his 4th tooth!  Unreal!  He was SO excited to tell his Daddio!

Reading

Ethan has started to read the Bible to us each night.  The other night I made a video of him reading while we were skyping with Grandma Cleve.

IMG_0553 IMG_0556

We’ve been starting to read a little bit from the actual Bible, too.  BSF has really encouraged me to do that, so we’re giving it a try!  Afterwards, we had a really cool conversation about the differences between his “I can read it myself” Bible and my Bible.  We talked about how my Bible has a lot more stories in it, but that his Bible is easier to understand for him, but comes from stories in my Bible.  So, we did a little comparison of the Ten Commandments in his Bible and in mine.  “Hey, Mom!  What does yours say for number 4??”  It was really exciting to be reading the Word with him and for him to understand so much of it.  Kids really understand a lot more than we think…I have to remind myself of that all the time.

Micah’s adventures

I try to keep my days with just Micah a nice balance of fun adventures, basic errands, focused attention on whatever Micah wants to do, and doing some learning activities.  When Daddio comes home and asks Micah about his day, I am thankful to hear him say, “I had an awesome day with mommy at home.”

This week we checked out this really sweet place called, “Special Kneads” with my friend (http://specialkneadsandtreats.com).  It’s a really cool concept…they employ adults with special needs to help at the bakery.  Anyway, I absolutely love what they are doing and who doesn’t love a cupcake?!?

IMG_0341 IMG_0342

He fells asleep on the way home:

IMG_0343

And then I felt compelled to feed him a salad for lunch.  Thankfully that’s something he loves and didn’t pick up on my compensating nature. =)

IMG_0346 IMG_0351 IMG_0352

We also went to see Jin for my hair cut this week.  He was pretty good for mine, but was very excited when she offered to trim his hair a bit…apparently my lack of skills shows! =/

IMG_0377 IMG_0379

Mike gets to work from home on Wednesdays, so Micah and I dropped in during his lunch break to say hello. =)

IMG_2564 IMG_2565

And today we stopped at Zpizza (“the abc pizza place” according to Micah) to grab lunch after Bible Study Fellowship.  Micah told me he learned about Pharaoh today and that there were frogs everywhere!!  Sounds pretty accurate to me, since we’re studying the Life of Moses this year.  I love that he is really taking it in and understanding the basic story.  So cool!!

IMG_0389 IMG_0390 IMG_0391

Cute Micah story: The other night Micah sneezed a bunch of times in a row during dinner.  He says to Mike, “Hey Dad!  The bless you’s got all over my food.”
